Aliya Khan, MD

BACKGROUND:   Dr. Khan is a Clinical Professor of Medicine, McMaster University and  Director of the Calcium Disorders Clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, McMaster University.  She graduated with honors from the University of Ottawa Medical School . She trained in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Endocrinology at the University of Toronto and also completed a research fellowship at the University of Toronto in metabolic bone disease.

She is the past Chair of the ISCD Certification Council and the ISCD Canadian Panel.  She has published over 100 scientific papers on osteoporosis and parathyroid disease.  She is the Editor of the Handbook of Parathyroid Diseases.  She led the development of the first Canadian standards papers on the practice of bone densitometry and parathyroid disease.  Dr. Khan co-chaired the Third International Workshop on Primary Hyperparathyroidism and also co-chaired the First International workshop on Hypoparathyroidism.  Dr. Khan is chair of the  ONJ Task force.  Dr Khan is the editorial consultant for the American College of Physicians for the hypercalcemia module and a reviewer and editorial board member for numerous medical journals. Dr. Khan has been recognized by national and international awards including the International Clinician Instructor of the Year 2011 award by the ISCD ( International Society of Clinical Densitometry).
